Built by Bethlehem Steel Co., Shipbuilding Division, Quincy, Mass. Tonnage: 30,293 (23,750 U.S.A. measurement). Dimensions: 637' x 89' (683' o.l.). Twin-screw, 25 knots. Steam turbines. One mast and two funnels. Service speed: 22 knots. Launched: September 16, 1950. Maiden voyage: New York-Mediterranean ports, June 21, 1951. Modifications: Superstructure was enlarged in 1959 and passenger capacity reduced to 395. Passengers: 484 first, 350 cabin, 254 tourist. Sister ship: Independence. Ownership Change: Sold to Atlantic Far East Line, 1974. Fate: Sank while under tow to shipbreakers, 1997.
