Captain Horatio McKay

Captain Horatio McKay, who commanded the Cunard liner Umbria during her recent eventful voyage, is a native of Stonehaven. He has been in the Cunard service for thirty-one years--during twelve of these as master of some of the finest vessels In the Cunard fleet. He succeeded the late Captain McMickan in his present position as commander of the Umbria.

Captain McKay to Retire

The many travellers to Europe by the Cunard Line who have received so many courtesies at the hands of Captain Horatio McKay, the veteran commander of the Lucania, will regret to learn that he is on his last voyage in command of an ocean steamer.

He has been in the Cunard service for thirty-five years and has been presented with fourteen medals and fortysix testimonials for acts of heroism at sea. On his arrival at Liverpool he will receive a loving cup from the ship's company, and will also be tendered a complimentary dinner. (Boston Home Journal, 21 December 1901). Horatio McKay, the former Commodore of the Cunard Steamship Line passed away on 8 January 1912.
