U.S. Navy Boot Camp Yearbook 1963 – Company 421 (The Anchor, San Diego)

Front Cover, U.S. Navy Boot Camp Yearbook 1963 Company 421, The Anchor (San Diego)

Company 421 of 1963 graduated from the U.S. Naval Training Center, San Diego, during a pivotal era in Cold War naval history. Under the leadership of SMC D. A. Vail (Company Commander) and LTJG T. W. Scott (Battalion Commander), 75 recruits completed training in December 1963. This yearbook preserves the roster, portraits, and honors of the division, including recognition as a distinguished “Meat Ball Company” for excellence in efficiency and competition.

For historians, genealogists, educators, and veterans’ families, these pages offer both a detailed record of sailors at the dawn of the Vietnam era and a tribute to the traditions of naval service.

Editorial Note: The roster images for Company 63-421 were generously contributed by a former recruit shortly after the launch of the GG Archives in 2000. At that time, scanning standards were limited (typically 150 DPI), and the contributor carefully reformatted the pages so each recruit’s name appeared with his photograph. While the resolution is not as high as more recent additions to our collection, this contribution remains an invaluable part of preserving the history of Company 421 and the recruits who served together in 1963. We are deeply grateful for this sailor’s effort to make his company’s story accessible to future generations. ⚓
