1937 Vintage Menus Archival Collection
Vintage menus for 1937 in the GG Archives collection represent the souvenir breakfast, luncheon, dinner, daily, private party, special occasion, and specialty menus provided to the passengers during their voyage.
Many of these souvenir menus have disappeared over the years. Our collection contains a sampling of menus initially produced and printed by the steamship lines. They are often used to illustrate family history books for immigrants from this time. The menus are organized in date order.
Elegant Vintage Dinner Menu from Thursday, 11 March 1937 on board the SS Hamburg of the Hamburg America Line featured Fried Fillet of Haddock Meunière, Râgout of Tongue with Mushrooms and Dumplings, Risotto, and Cannelons with Whipped Cream for dessert. Printed in German and English, the Menu included a Music Program.
Elegant, Large Format, Vintage Dinner Menu from 18 July 1937 on board the SS Bremen of the North German Lloyd featured Live Boiled Lobster, Mayonnaise Sauce, Vol-au-Vent Toulousaine, and Crepes Valentine for dessert. The Menu was printed in German and English with an brief history on the back cover about the 80th Anniversary of the Norddeutschen Lloyd Bremen.
Graphically Superior Vintage Dinner Menu from Wednesday, 28 July 1937 on board the SS Bremen of the North German Lloyd featured Mignon Fillet Helder, Suprême of Chicken Armagnac, and Soufflé Camargo for dessert. The story of Neuschwanstein Castle is printed on the back of the Menu.
Vintage Luncheon Menu from 29 July 1937 on board the SS Bremen of the Norddeutscher Lloyd Bremen (North German Lloyd) featured John Dory Niçoise, Tendrons of Veal Marengo, and Lemon Meringue Pie for dessert.
July 1937 Elaborate Breakfast Bill of Fare for passengers on board the SS Hamburg of the Hamburg America Line offers the standard American fare plus German favorites.
Superior Graphics adorn this Vintage Dinner Menu from Friday, 30 July 1937 on board the SS Bremen of the North German Lloyd featured expansive array of food including Boiled North Sea Turbot, Melted Butter or Sauce Vénitienne, Grenadins of Veal Diable Rouge, and Crêpes Georgette for dessert. Printed in German and English, the back cover offered a short essay on Leipzig the Monument of the Battle of the Nations.

Vintage Farewell Dinner Menu Card from 8 August 1937 on board the RMS Queen Mary of the Cunard Line featured Fillets of Sole Chesterfield, Chicken Halibut, Sauce Victoria, and Régence Pudding for dessert.
This Anniversary Dinner Bill of Fare celebrates the 90th Anniversary of the Founding of the Hamburg America Line (1847-1937). The Bill of Fare featured Eggs with Caviar, Boiled Turbot with Sauce Romain and Tournedos with Potato Croquettes. A Music Program is on the Back Cover.
