1929 Vintage Menus Archival Collection
Vintage menus for 1929 in the GG Archives collection represent the souvenir breakfast, luncheon, dinner, daily, private party, special occasion, and specialty menus provided to the passengers during their voyage.
Many of these souvenir menus have disappeared over the years. Our collection contains a sampling of menus initially produced and printed by the steamship lines. They are often used to illustrate family history books for immigrants from this time. The menus are organized in date order.
Vintage Farewell Dinner Menu from Saturday, 12 January 1929 on board the SS Hamburg of the Hamburg-America Line featured Fillet of Sole Excelsior; Truffled Breast of Pheasant; and Frozen Tom and Jerry for Dessert.

Vintage dinner Menu from 21 April 1929 on board the American Trader of the American Merchant Lines featured Broiled Bluefish, Sauce Tartare, Baked Meat Pie, and for dessert, Ice Cream Melba and Assorted Pastries.
Vintage Farewell Dinner Menu from Saturday, 27 April 1929 on board the SS American Shipper of the American Merchant Lines featured Fried Boston Sole, Anchovy Butter, Tenderloin of Beef, Braised, with Mushrooms, and French Pastry for dessert. The Menu included a list of executive officers and autographs.

Vintage Dinner Menu from Wednesday, 17 July 1929 on board the RMS Berengaria of the Cunard Line featured Tournedos—Mascotte, Croquette of Chicken—Maréchale, and Soufflé Pudding Suchard for dessert.
An expansive vintage Breakfast Bill of Fare from 18 July 1929 featured Grilled Spanish Mackerel—Fines Herbes, Omelettes, Hashed Turkey -- Creole style and American and Wiltshire Smoked and Pale Bacon.
Elegant Vintage Luncheon Menu from 21 July 1929 on board the RMS Berengaria of the Cunard Line featured an extensive selection including Escalope of Veal-Forestière, Ravioli à Ia Bolognaise, and Gelée au Vin for dessert.
