1940 Vintage Menus

Vintage menus for 1940 in the GG Archives collection represent the souvenir breakfast, luncheon, dinner, daily, private party, special occasion, and specialty menus provided to the passengers during their voyage.

Many of these souvenir menus have disappeared over the years. Our collection contains a sampling of menus initially produced and printed by the steamship lines. They are often used to illustrate family history books for immigrants from this time. The menus are organized in date order.

A Watercolor Painting of The RMS Britannic adorns the Front Cover of this Vintage Luncheon Menu from Thursday, 26 December 1940 on board the RMS Queen Mary of the Cunard Line.

1940-12-26 RMS Queen Mary Luncheon Menu

Vintage Luncheon Bill of Fare from 26 December 1940 on board the RMS Queen Mary of the Cunard Line featured Broiled Haddock, Sauce Robert, Beefsteak and Kidney Pie, and Sago Custard Pudding for dessert. This Bill of Fare was prepared for "Officers".

The Folks Behind the GG Archives

The GG Archives is the work and passion of two people, Paul Gjenvick, a professional archivist, and Evelyne Gjenvick, a curator. Paul earned a Masters of Archival Studies - a terminal degree from Clayton State University in Georgia, where he studied under renowned archivist Richard Pearce-Moses. Our research into the RMS Laconia and SS Bergensfjord, the ships that brought two members of the Gjønvik family from Norway to the United States in the early 20th century, has helped us design our site for other genealogists. The extent of original materials at the GG Archives can be very beneficial when researching your family's migration from Europe.
