1906 Vintage Menus Archival Collection
Vintage menus for 1906 in the GG Archives collection represent the souvenir breakfast, luncheon, dinner, daily, private party, special occasion, and specialty menus provided to the passengers during their voyage.
Many of these souvenir menus have disappeared over the years. Our collection contains a sampling of menus initially produced and printed by the steamship lines. They are often used to illustrate family history books for immigrants from this time. The menus are organized in date order.
Vintage Second Cabin Daily Bill of Fare Card from 9 June 1906 on board the RMS Virginian of the Allan Line featured Beefsteak and Onions for Breakfast, Roast Goose, Apple Sauce for Dinner, and Preserved Salmon for Tea.
Vintage Dinner Menu from 13 October 1906 on Board the SS la Touraine of the CGT French Line Featured Vol-Au-Vent Veal, Pheasant with Truffles, and Dragées Pralines Confitures for Dessert.
Vintage Dinner Menu from 10 November 1906 on board the SS La Touraine of the CGT French Line featured Salmis of Partridge, Roast Fillet of Beef, and Glace Plombière for Dessert.
The special dinners are only the outward and visible sign of Cunard enterprise in catering for their passengers. Chief stewards and head waiters have been put through a course of training in the leading hotels of London and Paris, and they in their turn have trained the different steward staffs to the highest possible degree of intelligent service.
