Built by Cammell, Laird & Co., Birkenhead, England. Tonnage: 17,759. Dimensions: 552' x 71' (574' o.l.). Twin-screw, 16 knots. Steam turbines. Two masts and two funnels. Launched: February 23, 1924. Passengers: 536 cabin, 410 third. Maiden voyage: Havre-New York, August 21, 1924. War Activities: Scuttled by the Germans at Bordeaux in August 1944. Refits: Early in 1946 was raised and reconditioned for service. She was given a single funnel in the refit. Services: Re-entered trans-Atlantic service July 1947. Transferred later to the West Indies trade. Sale: Sold to Canadian Pacific early in 1953, as a replacement for their fire-gutted Empress of Canada. Renamed: (a) Empress of Australia (1953), (b) Venezuela (1956).
