Your branch of the Armed Forces has informed the Selectiv Service System that you are a member of the Standby Reserve.

Under provisions of the Armed Forces Reserve Act of 1952, as amended, the Director of Selective Service has the responsibility for determining the availability of members of the Standby Reserve for order to active duty in time of war or national emergency declared by Congress or when otherwise authorized by law.

You are required to notify your local board, in writing, of (A) Any change of address; (B) Any fact which might change its determination of your availability.

NOTICE OF RIGHT TO APPEAL

Appeal from determination by local board may be taken by filing written notice of appeal with local board within one of the following periods after the date of mailing of this notice, whichever is applicable: 10 DAYS, if both you and local board are located in the continental United States or in the same Territory or possession of the United States; 30 DAYS, if you are located in the continental United States and local board is located in a Territory or possession of the United States; 30 DAYS, if you are located in a Territory or possession of the United States and local board is located in the continental United States or in another such Territory or possession; 30 DAYS, if you are located in Canada, Cuba, or Mexico; 60 DAYS, if you are located in a foreign country other than Canada, Cuba, or Mexico.

Upon your .written request filed with the local board, the appeal may be submitted to the appeal board having jurisdiction over the area in which you are currently residing or, if you are claiming that you are not available for order to active duty because of your civilian occupation, to the appeal board having jurisdiction over the area in which is located your principal place of employment.

If an appeal has been taken and the appeal board has determined you are available for order to active duty, and one or more members of the appeal board dissented from such determintion, you may file a written notice of appeal to the Director of Selective Service with your local board within 10 DAYS after the mailing of this notice.

The Folks Behind the GG Archives

The GG Archives is the work and passion of two people, Paul Gjenvick, a professional archivist, and Evelyne Gjenvick, a curator. Paul earned a Masters of Archival Studies - a terminal degree from Clayton State University in Georgia, where he studied under renowned archivist Richard Pearce-Moses. Our research into the RMS Laconia and SS Bergensfjord, the ships that brought two members of the Gjønvik family from Norway to the United States in the early 20th century, has helped us design our site for other genealogists. The extent of original materials at the GG Archives can be very beneficial when researching your family's migration from Europe.
