SS Karlsruhe Vintage Menu Collection
Vintage menus for the SS Karlsruhe in the GG Archives collection represent the souvenir breakfast, luncheon, dinner, daily, private party, special occasion, and specialty menus provided to the passengers during their voyage. Many of these souvenir menus have disappeared over the years.
1928-07-29 SS Karlsruhe Dinner Menu
Vintage Dinner Menu from Sunday, 29 July 1928 on board the SS Karlsruhe of the North German Lloyd featured Fried English Sole, Potato Salad with Mayonnaise, Glazed Saddle of Veal, and Rice Pudding, Strawberry Sauce for dessert. Printed in German and English, the Menu included a Music Program and an announcement of a Moving Picture show later that evening.
Our collection contains a sampling of menus initially produced and printed by the steamship lines. They are often used to illustrate family history books for immigrants from this time.
