Built by Vickers-Armstrongs, Ltd., Barrow, England. Tonnage: 23,428 (increased to 23,580). Dimensions: 640' x 82' (665' O.I.). Twin-screw, 21 knots. Steam turbines. Two masts and one funnel. Launched: 4 April 1935. Maiden Voyage: 18 September 1935. Service: England-Australia, via Suez Canal. Refits: Service speed reduced to 19 knots. War Service: Served as a Troop Ship during WWII. Post War Service: Returned to P&O 1948 Refitted for 497 First Class and 487 Tourist Class passengers. Service: London-Australian Ports. Refit 1954: Turned into a single-class ship with 1200 berths for migrant and tourist business. Fate: Scrapped in May 1969 in La Spezia, Italy. Similar ships: Strathallan and Stratheden.
