The Ranger 28: Most advanced production cruiser-racer we've ever built (1977)

The Ranger 28: Most advanced production cruiser-racer we've ever built (1977)

We built the Ranger 28 yacht for serious sailors who won't settle for an ordinary cruiser-racer.

We asked designer Gary Mull to make her a competition sailboat with the creature comforts of a cruising boat below. We took the trouble to build her with the polish and the strength of a custom yacht.

Simplicity Below

The Ranger 28 yacht is not a floating pleasure dome below. We concentrated on simplicity. But she is, like any finely engineered machine, a joy to use.

We placed the galley sink as carefully as the winches and genoa tracks. Worried about the cabin table size as well as the dimensions of the rig.

And we wound up with a galley that works at sea. A cabin with breathing space and light. A truly private head. And five uncommonly comfortable berths.

The hull is patterned after Mull's most agile MORC and IOR designs. Long on the waterline for speed. Fine at the ends for an easy entry and a silky wake. And beamy in between for space below, stability, and power to carry sail.

A swept-back fin keel and generous rudder provide superior steering -- and cut resistance for speed in light airs. The cambered deck is made for rapid crew work.

The rig is lofty even for a racing boat. A 37.5-foot mast on a 28-footer! For tall jibs and spinnakers. And a high-aspect main for power to windward. Inboard chain plates permit the jennies to be sheeted close to the wind.

The Ranger 28 yacht is not to everybody's taste. But if you find her concept challenging, fill out the coupon below and we will send you detailed information.
